For more than 160 years, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary has stood upon its founding confession of faith: the Abstract of Principles. Written in 1858 and formally adopted at the institution's founding in 1859, this doctrinal statement was designed to ensure theological fidelity for generations to come. In 1993, Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr., reaffirmed its central role in shaping the seminary's identity, calling the faculty and institution to renewed confessional commitment.

In Confessing the Faith, Southern Seminary faculty members provide biblical, historical, and theological commentary on each article of the Abstract, demonstrating its enduring significance. This book offers a powerful testimony to the seminary's confessional heritage and a compelling vision for doctrinal integrity in theological education.
