"There are lots of books that tell stories about kings and kingdoms, princes and princesses... There is only one book, however, about a king and a kingdom that is the truest story ever told."

This gorgeously illustrated book will introduce children to the big story of the Bible, the story of the True King who rules over his people in perfect goodness and a kingdom that will last forever.

Beautiful overview of the big picture story of Scripture

If you’ve read I See Jesus by Nancy Guthrie, The True King is a something of an “older brother” companion book. Both are excellent books, giving a brief overview of the big picture of the Bible and helping children see the overarching message of Christ as Savior and King woven throughout Scripture. The True King is longer and more in depth than I See Jesus, and I would recommend it for maybe a little bit older children due to its length. I would say I See Jesus would be best for 5 and up, whereas this one might be better for maybe 6 and up, depending on your child. This book is really beautiful in its message and its illustrations (by Jenny Brake)! As always, I’m so thankful for Nancy Guthrie and her ministry to both women and children. Her passion for the gospel and Scripture as a whole is evident in all she writes! Thank you so much to 10 Publishing for a gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Big story of the Bible for little ones

Wonderful book to introduce kids to the big picture of the Bible. The story of salvation from Genesis to Revelation pointing to the true king Jesus. Though a bit text heavy but still good enough for independent reading for 5-7 year olds. The accompanying illustrations are lovely and well enjoyed.

Beautiful Illustrations, Lots of Words

The True King is a beautifully illustrated introduction to the big story of the Bible. Nancy Guthrie does a great job helping children see how individual stories connect to the greater story of a True King and a kingdom that lasts, and Jenny Brake’s artwork adds so much depth and beauty to each page. While it includes more text than a typical picture book, making it better suited for slower reading or slightly older children, that depth also makes it a meaningful resource for families who want to take their time and talk through the story together.
