Few of us are prepared to meet the unexpected blow of suffering head-on, even though it is part of life's package. Catherine Campbell has personally walked the path of the broken-hearted. She shares with us how pain shapes our faith and develops a deep trust in the God who can transform what is broken in our lives.

Using God's Word, illustrated by moving true-life stories, Catherine explores the difficult questions to enable us to find help for our struggling hearts. This book is a must-read if you're suffering or supporting others, and an invaluable resource to prepare all of us for challenging times. Through suffering, God writes another story with our lives. Not the 'perfect' one we would have written for ourselves, but an infinitely more beautiful, more wonderful story that helps us to see that broken really does work best.

'To write a book on Christian suffering is no easy task but Catherine Campbell has succeeded superbly. Mingling Scripture teaching, biblical examples and contemporary illustrations with the account of her own intense sorrows, she has produced a book that will be an enormous help to those facing suffering and to those who would comfort others.' ~ Faith Cook

Catherine Campbell

Catherine Campbell has spoken at numerous women’s events, including day conferences, breakfasts and weekends, as well as individual fellowship meetings for women in various churches. Having cared for two profoundly disabled daughters for a period of almost twenty years, Catherine is often asked to speak on the subject of suffering – through testimony, bible ministry and seminars. But she also delights in opportunities to share what the Bible has to say on a myriad of other subjects too! She is married to Philip. They have three children; two daughters, Cheryl and Joy, now in heaven, and a wonderful son, Paul who is married to Susie, both exceptional musicians.

Biblical Truths, Challenging Insights and an Attitude of Praise

Sometimes when authors write about suffering and pain they forget to live in the real world. Campbell does a great job of opening up this difficult topic with her own story and the story of others who have suffered horrendous pain in their lives. Instead of focusing simply on physical pain which is a result of living in a fallen world, like many do, she writes about the pain that we will suffer for Jesus. I always find in times of pain and suffering the place to go is to God and learn from what His Word has to say, to rest in the knowledge of His sovereignty and His care. I also find it helpful to read the stories of other who have suffered, to learn how they ‘dealt with’ their pain and what they learnt about God in the process. If you are suffering and want to read a book that contains biblical truths, challenging insights and an attitude of praise and devotion to God I encourage you to read this book.

A message we all need to take to heart

Suffering is inevitable, but building a real relationship with God in the good times will prepare you to endure and grow through the pain. This is Catherine Campbell’s basic message in this new edition of ‘Broken Works Best’, and it’s one that we all need to take to heart. Using Biblical examples and heart–rending true stories, Campbell gently encourages the reader to learn the habit of trusting in our faithful God and keeping an eternal perspective. Of particular benefit is the chapter entitled ‘Don’t Waste Your Pain’ – a challenge to allow God to use your pain to refine you and draw you closer to Him. This book is an important addition to any Christian’s library, whether they are currently going through trials or not.
