What Keeps Us from Flourishing? We all long to live out our faith with daily joy, but so often that joy eludes us. Why is that? More often than we realize, it's because we've absorbed messages that curve us in on ourselves. These messages have even crept into the church, disguised as truth. It's time we learn to discern teaching that's toxic from that which is true and pure. Flourish equips us with tools to identify the lies that come at us about where to find real life. As we dig deep into what God says in his Word, we will learn to discern the worldly influences that threaten to warp our understanding of what it really means to be a Christian, and emerge with a faith that flourishes—full of the abundant life Jesus promises.

Gospel Truth, Challenging Tone

This is a gospel-centered, Scripture-filled book with a strong core message about turning our focus from self to Christ. It’s a quick, accessible read, and I found myself agreeing with much of the theology. However, the tone felt off-putting at times—especially for those in tender or difficult seasons. I’m not sure I would recommend it to someone currently struggling, as parts may come across as lacking in sensitivity. The book also leans heavily into critiquing other authors and teachings, which felt excessive compared to developing its own points. Structurally, it was somewhat disjointed, with chapters and sections jumping between ideas. The final chapter on self-victimization, in particular, felt too surface-level for such a heavy topic and could be hurtful to some readers. That said, I appreciated the author’s honesty about her own struggles. Overall, while not a must-read, it offers solid biblical reminders and may be helpful as a light, introductory reflection.
