Old Wives Tales:

In the eighteenth century God used men such as John and Charles Wesley, George Whitefield and Jonathan Edwards to bring spiritual revival to both Britain and America – but what about the women in their lives? What was it like to live and work with such dynamic and demanding men?

While looking through the lens of history, Clare Heath–Whyte draws out lessons for today, via the honest portraits of these seven unique women.

From godliness to bitterness, hostility to courage, the lives of these extraordinary women point us to a faithful God, even in the midst of the most difficult of life’s scenarios

First Wives Club:

The Reformation was a time of exciting and radical change. The leaders would have been under great pressure as they stood firmly for their convictions in the face of danger and threats. What would it have been like for the women who stood beside and supported them?

Although many of these pressures are totally alien to us today, we still face the same challenge of standing firm for the gospel in a world which is against the God of the Bible.

In this companion to Old Wives’ Tales Clare Heath–Whyte once again shows us the importance of learning from the past. She tells the stories of six Reformation wives including Katie Luther, Katharina Zell and Idelette Calvin. She honestly portrays how they endeavoured to live godly lives during this tumultuous period in history.

Get to know the fascinating stories of these six courageous, hard–working wives. Learn from their mistakes and struggles, and be encouraged by their examples.

For Richer for Poorer:

The nineteenth century saw great innovation and change. The modern world grew and flourished at the hands of great creators and scientists. There were opportunities for Christian men to influence their society and culture for good, and these key figures were often supported and sustained by unsung heroes – their wives.

Inside these pages, you’ll read of six women who lived bold, godly, and servant-hearted lives during the nineteenth century. Be challenged by their wholehearted commitment to Christ even under the restrictions of the day. And be encouraged that they too struggled with similar concerns as us – time management, parenting, sickness – and yet sought to live for the glory of Jesus.

Reflection questions at the end of each chapter make this an ideal book to aid your personal growth or to enjoy as part of a book discussion group.
